Golf courses abound around New Bern and vicinity. Of excellent quality and design, our top courses have won praise from amateurs and professionals alike and host a number of large golf tournaments, including the Curtis Strange Invitational Classic usually held the last week in September at the Emerald in Greenbrier, this year we've got Tiger Woods and Justin Leonard with David Feherty  playing skins for charity.

Golfing residents and visitors are fortunate: Popular courses are easily accessible, many in planned residential communities, and the normally mild New Bern area climate allows for year-round play.

Following is a list of the courses in the immediate New Bern area. More fine golf courses around the New Bern and Crystal Coast area, including the Morehead City Golf and Country Club; Bogue Banks Country Club in Pine Knoll Shores; Star Hill Golf and Country Club in Cape Carteret; Brandywine Bay Golf Club near Morehead City; and Silver Creek Golf Club on Highway 58 near Cape Carteret, are just a short drive away, making New Bern a prime headquarters for golfing trips.

Eight miles from New Bern on Hwy. 70 E. Call for tee times weekends and holidays. Semi-private. Green fee: $15 to walk Mon-Thur. $28 to ride Fri-Sun and holidays. Practice facilities. Yards 6,500. Waiting list for private carts. Membership: $2,000 initiation for family, $1,000 single. $90 per month dues. Has pool and social memberships. Interesting course, some trick holes.

River Bend Country Club, New Bern, NC. 252 638-2819

(Five minutes from New Bern on Hwy 17 S.) Call for tee times weekends and holidays. Semi-private

Green fee: weekdays $12, weekends $15, carts $10.00 per person Yards: 6400 Initiation fee $1350. $98 per month dues. Social membership(no golf) $500, $45 per month dues.  Facilities: pool, tennis, pro shop, snack bar, driving range. Nice course, not difficult, rated above average two years ago in Golf Digest. Can’t walk before noon on weekends.

New Bern Golf & Country Club 252 637-2413

Country Club Drive (in town) Members only. 18 holes $9.50 cart fee Yards: 6,045. $8,500 initiation fee, $140 monthly dues. Facilities: pool, tennis. Excellent dining room.($15 mo. minimum) Usually takes 2 years to join. Must be sponsored by two members and must submit a photo of entire family. Short course in great shape, small greens.

Quaker Neck Country Club Trenton, NC 252 224-5736

**Fairfield Harbour (2 courses) New Bern NC 

Fifteen minutes from New Bern on Rt 55 N. Follow signs to community.

Private, $5,000 to join (equity share) $845 per year per family to play on 1 course, $1125 per year single and $1535 family to play both courses. Green and cart fee after 3pm $15. Cart fee $9 for 18 holes. Before 3:00 pm, $25 with cart. Trackage fee for private carts $721 single,$1028 family per year (leasing $916 single, $1284 family) Yards: 6575. Full boating facilities, tennis, driving range, dining room, snack bar, pool. Unrestricted walking. Must be property owner/Time Share owner or guest of either.

Harbour Pointe Public Course 252 638-5338

Driving Range. Practice facilities. Green Fee: for 18 holes $29.00. cart $12.50 for 9 holes $15.00, cart $9.50. Yards: 6554 Walk anytime after 1 pm.  Both courses above average.

**Taberna Hwy. 70E, 5 miles from New Bern.

This is a first class Weyerhaeuser community development and golf course, designed by the Jack Nicolas design team. In the same league as the Emerald. Clubhouse architectural detailing taken directly from New Bern's sister city of Bern, Switzerland. Private course. Reciprocal rights with Cypress Landing and The Emerald. Hiking & nature bike trails, canoe trail, tennis, pool.

Minnesott Golf And Country Club Minnesott Beach 252 249-0813

Forty-five minutes from New Bern on Rt. 306. Semi-private.  Greens fee (with cart): $23 during week, $29 weekend. Initiation fee $250, $75 monthly dues. Facilities: pool, tennis, boat ramp, snack bar Pretty course on the Neuse River.

Cherry Point Marine Air Station 252 466-3044

Rt. 70 E on Cherry Point Base in Havelock. Must be military, active or retired, government employee or guest of either. Yards: 6599 Carts and green fees: Vary according to rank and are available daily, monthly or annually. Facilities: driving range, pro shop, snack bar. Pretty course in very good shape.

Camp Lejeune Marine Base Jacksonville, NC (2 courses)

Thirty five minutes from New Bern on Hwy. 17S, follow signs to base entry. Must be military or dependents, same restrictions as Cherry Point.

Between Newport and Morehead City on Rt. 17 E. Semi-private Yards: 6700 Green fees: Summer rates $23 to walk, $35 to ride Winter rates $18 to walk, $25 to ride. Carts $10.00, cart required. on weekends. Seniors (55+) Special Wed. $16 including cart. Facilities: Tournament catering capability, pro shop, snack bar, pool.

43 N in Chocowinity about 45 minutes from New Bern. Semi-private. Newest championship course, a William Love design 6,900 yards. Initiation fee $3750 for property owners; $4750 for non-property owners Green fees: Mon-Thurs $33, weekends and holidays $39. Best area golfers love this one. Members guest play for $25 Cart fee $11. Members may walk. Full golf facilities, full boating facilities, bike and nature trails, tennis. William Love design with the signature hole one of the most gorgeous on the east coast. Reciprocal rights with The Emerald and Taberna ($21 including cart).
